Home in 4 days :(

Hello! I am going home in 4 days, and am super sad about that. I am currently in the Netherlands, and before that I was in Romania. For the first 2 days we stayed in a hotel in Bucharest, with an amazing breakfast! We then drove to Brasov, and stayed there for another 2 nights. On the way to Brasov we stopped at a castle, that is apparently the most beautiful castle in Romania. We also went to Dracula's castle, which has no connection whatsoever to Dracula. We then went back to Bucharest for 3 more nights, and visited my mom’s cousin.  Yesterday we went to the zoo, and it was super cool! It had seals, with an underwater exhibit that you could watch the seals in. It was not busy at all, and the seals were super easy to spot. After that, we went to a pizza place (and the Italy pizza was definitely better). We then went to Micropia, which is the worlds only bacteria museum for kids! We could see so many different types of bacteria which was super cool. (Photos will come in the n...

Italy - 2 countries and 15 days left!!!

Hello! I went to Rome first, and it was super cool! We went to the Vatican which was amazing and adds yet another country to our list! We went to the Sistine Chapel in Vatican where Michelangelo laid on his back for 4 years to paint the ceiling. We unfortunately couldn’t take photos in the Sistine Chapel for copyright reasons, but you can find photos online and I took photos everywhere else in Vatican. My favourite painting in the Vatican was The Last Judgment, where all the blue is made out of lapis lazuli, an expensive gem found in Afghanistan. If you look at the photo I got online of the painting, you will find a droopy figure that is supposed to represent Michelangelo and how he was feeling while painting it. He liked sculpting much more than painting, and when he was asked to paint it he couldn’t refuse, so during the painting process he was feeling very upset. A few days after Vatican, we went to the Coliseum. The Coliseum was built for entertainment purposes. They would hol...

Dubrovnik, Croatia - 3 countries and 1 month left!

Image
Hello! I was in Croatia for 2 weeks, and we did quite a bit. We went to 2 bonus countries, went to 3 museums (unfortunately i can only remember 1), and had lots of ice cream. The 2 bonus countries we went to are both 1-3 hour drives from Dubrovnik, which was nice. We went to Montenegro and Bosnia, and they were both quite similar to Croatia. All we did in Bosnia was see a UNESCO bridge, that dates back to 1452, but was rebuilt in 2004,  shopped. In Montenegro we visited a church on an island and it was pretty cool. I don’t know how it was built though, because it is quite old and they didn’t have the fast boats that we have today. A few days after Montenegro we went to a history museum and it had more facts about animals than actual Croatia history! The last 2 floors were blocked off so we couldn’t see the rest which was sad. At the museum I learned that there is a plant that grows in Croatia that looks like glass. When they found out it was a plant, no one believed it! I don...

Istanbul, by Amelia

Image
Hi we were in Istanbul and it was pretty cool! We went to the two mosques that were near us they were called the Hagia Sophia and the blue mosque. Fact: Istanbul is the most popular tourist destination in the world. We also went on a food tour on the European side and on the Asian side and it was so good especially dessert. We made a friend and her name is Isabelle.  Istanbul doesn’t have good drinking water so they used to store it underground and the one we went in is called the basilica cistern and it is the largest one and it’s pretty cool ! It has two towers that have Medusa’s head on them at the bottom and one tower that is completely different it has chicken eyes all over it!  Chicken eye pillar Medusa  Medusa head  Medusa head  Basilica Cistern Pickled food on the food tour  Turkish delight  Hagia Sophia

Istanbul, Turkey

Hello! We left Turkey 1 week ago, and now I am in Croatia. In Turkey we visited a Cistern, 2 mosques, and a palace.  The mosques we visited were called the Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque, which in my opinion is the prettiest one in Turkey. The Blue Mosque is smaller than the Hagia Sofia because it is only 1 floor not 2, but the ceilings are still the same hight, maybe even taller! Because of that, the chandeliers are quite low so that it is bright enough to see. If the chandeliers were close to the roof, the light wouldn’t be bright enough to reach the ground. I think we were quite lucky at the Hagia Sofia, because a tour guide came up to us when the ticket office was about to close and offered us a tour! He said that he already bought the tickets, and we just need to go with him for the tour. We agreed, but it ended up being a little bit rushed because tourists aren’t allowed to be in the mosque during prayers. The Hagia Sofia was originally an Orthodox Church for 30 years,...

Tbilisi, Georgia

I had the most amazing time in Georgia! I think it was my favourite country so far, even though it was cold. If I came from Canada to Georgia I might find it a bit warmer (it was 10 degrees in Georgia) but since I was coming from 40 degree weather, I found it very cold. During our time in Georgia (2 weeks) we visited 3 museums, took a day trip to another country, visited 7 churches, went to another town, and went on 2 tours.  The museums we went to were the museum of fine arts, the Georgian national museum, and a museum in Kutaisi. The fine art museum was super cool and featured some art that actually came off the canvas and took up half a wall! The Georgia national museum was super cool because it had a whole floor on human bones and skulls found in Georgia, and how it progressed to the skulls we have over time (gorilla to human). The country we went to is called Armenia, and it was a 3 hour drive from Tbilisi. We visited a monastery there, and it was very interesting. Monas...

Belated Dubai post from Amelia

Image
Hii it’s Amelia and we are in Dubai now! My mom, dad and I went up the tallest building in the world it’s called the Burj Khalifa! I learned that there is going to be another tall building and it will be called the Dubai creek tower! It will be the tallest building soon and the Burj Khalifa will be the second tallest building. We think that they want the tallest and second tallest buildings to be in the same country. We also went to a water park that has the most water slides in the world isn’t that cool! Unfortunately some of the rides were too scary for me and Neptune tower was the one where all of the non scary slides were and we didn’t go there because we didn’t know that it was there! When we were leaving we found out that it was there! So we skipped a whole section of the water park. Spices at the market  Jars of sand for sale  At the waterpark!  At the top of the Burj Khalifa
