Vietnam Pt 2
Jan 12 2024
Hello! Today I am in Da Nang, Vietnam and checking out from a hotel. Going to Da Nang wasn’t originally on the list, but the flight to Ha long got delayed. I am actually happy that the flight got delayed because that meant that I could see more of Da Nang. I got to do lantern making, and get gigantic cotton candy! To do lantern making, first you get a lantern frame. Next take 1 square of fabric and glue it on to 3 lines of the frame. Do that on the other side leaving 1 line of the frame clear on both sides. Then, glue 1 square of fabric over each uncovered frame. Cut off all the excess and then you are done! The hotel had 2 main dining rooms and a breakfast buffet with lots of selection like doughnuts, waffles, pho, steamed buns, etc. For dinner I went with my family to one of the main dining rooms. Peking duck was on the menu and we all like that, but it would take 30 mins to prepare. During the waiting time, we ordered fried rice and steamed vegetables. When the peking duck came, it came with a sauce that looked a bit like a watered down hoisin sauce. As soon as I ate the sauce, I instantly felt like I ate peanut. As it turns out, there was peanut butter in the sauce. The recipe for the sauce was water, hoisin sauce, peanut butter. What really annoys me though, is that we told the staff so many times about my allergy and they still forgot. The next day I couldn’t eat breakfast or lunch because I was scared and I am still somewhat scared to eat food. I was even asking my mom if oranges would have peanuts. It still scares me and I just hope it never happens again. With that story out of the way though, I can now say how cold it is in Vietnam. Surely it isn’t as cold as Calgary, but it has been raining and very windy (feels like 5). I have gotten a comment about wondering how to do the batik painting at home or in a class, and it is actually quite easy! Without the wax, you won’t be able to get a white outline, but wax crayon might work. You will just have to over it 2 or 3 times.
Here are some photos:

I want to clarify for the readers- it’s actually 20°C here but feels cooler because of the rain. We are currently in Ha Long by the water and it feels colder because we have gotten used to the warmer temperatures of the part few months! Stay warm and safe in those -38°C temperatures, friends! We are thinking of you all but very glad to not be experiencing that.
ReplyDeleteArt class in school use to have batik projects.
